This emulation environment is tailored to reproduce the behaviour of a real satellite DVB-RCS system from the network point of view, including MAC and PHY simulation (e.g., DAMA bandwidth on demand, channel error models), and part of SatLabs specification (QoS, C2P) for several terminals. It works in real time, processing IP traffic as it would happen on a real DVB-RCS (or different standard) system, from either local traffic loaders or external SW/HW by means of Ethernet interface.
Such an emulation baseline has been then enhanced and extended to support the validation of specific use-cases addressed in past and current research projects, such as Telemedicine, VoIP, video streaming, IoT applications (i.e. MQTT brokers) and broadband/broadcast over satellite.
